Everything I did this week, according to my camera roll
Every Ass Morning In June: a daily ongoing stream of cawnsciousness (Day 6)
Good morning! Or good afternoon, considering it’s past noon. It’s a hot, breezy Saturday in the city (threat of thunderstorms later) and Gwen’s in town. I slept in and had coffee and padded around my apartment, my favorite Saturday morning pastime. I’m going to do a recap of everything I did this week, using my camera roll for memory recall purposes.
Monday:
I jumpstarted this whole thing, EIMIJ, and made a video for Glossier which you’ll probably see on the feed soon. I got my brothers to try Boy Brow from their respective spots in Michigan and send me videos applying it as if they’re beauty influencers. Nick, my older brother, used the Grey color, which I’ve never seen anyone use. At night, I went to The Roxy theater with Emily to watch Star 80 and then got chicken fingers on the way home.
Tuesday:
I was photographed for Gap by my friend Juan in Midtown. The pictures are so juicy, you’re gonna love them. It’s a full denim fit and I didn’t know which shoes to wear and ended up going with some black Converse, which kind of made me look like a kid on a field trip but it’s fine. Whenever I wear Converse, I go into it thinking I’ll look cool and casual but 95% of the time, I just look juvenile. I’ll make them work someday, I’m sure. After trying and failing to agree on a time to see Backrooms with the group chat, I gave up and went by myself to the 11 PM showing at the AMC around the corner from my apartment, wearing the blue Gap hoodie I was photographed in earlier. I brought a can of lemon Waterloo seltzer water from home and got Sour Patch Kids watermelons at the theater. The movie was a fun ride and visually crazy and I’m excited for everyone else to see it so I can discuss it.
Wednesday:
I got a wrap from Chop’t for lunch and it might be my new go-to. The Mexican Caesar with shrimp. I ate it on a sunny chair outside the Astor Place subway station where all the delivery guys hang out, waiting for their next quest. Perris came over (“I’m downstairs, can I come up?”) and wanted to borrow a shirt to wear for a live dating show he was about to go on. He was nervous (“I think I had too much caffeine”) and I told him it would be fine. When I got out of the shower, I found him meditating in my living room. Abby and I had dinner in Williamsburg and then walked to the water and hung out on a bench. I walked home over the bridge and then ran into an old lover and his new boyfriend on First Ave, the bars around us bulging with Knicks fans. He asked how “the Substack thing” is going and I was happy to report that I’ve been writing every morning. I got back to my apartment and cleaned my desk while listening to music.
Thursday:
I got the Chop’t wrap for lunch again, this time bravely trying the “protein wrap” instead of the normal whole wheat wrap. It was surprisingly good and normal. I put an all black fit together for the Hulu PAPER mag party at the Broken Shaker atop the Freehand hotel. Simona, Abby, and I went to Sarabeth’s for dinner where we tried the crab guacamole and loved it. After, we walked back down to Union Square and sat on the steps. Then I put together a little tote bag of snacks and seltzer water and brought it to Gwen’s hotel on 42nd street, where we ripped open the bag of French Toast Drizzlicious that I scored at Target and did a taste test on camera, my iPhone propped up on the windowsill. I listened to the new Taylor Swift song all the way back to my apartment on my glasses.
Friday:
I was an extra in a moisturizer spot for Lili Reinhart’s skincare brand, Personal Day. The summer-in-the-city themed shoot took place on a classic New York City roof on Avenue B, inflatable pool and all. I wore a swimsuit and slathered on sunscreen, knowing we’d be getting wet and sitting in the sun. We did multiple shots of fake pool party shenanigans, throwing water balloons at each other while a guy in the corner operated a sprinkler by dipping a machine into a huge bucket of water. We all helped pick up scraps of balloons between shots to reset. Bianca yelled “chaos!” during each take, at which point we were supposed to start splashing each other and laughing like Disney Channel actors. I rubbed the unreleased moisturizer on my face with a camera inches away, pointed at My Bad Side. It’s not like I, a lowly extra, could be like “umm this is my bad side,” so hopefully I don’t look too beat. I got $100 cash for an afternoon of getting soaked on a roof and then met Simona at Lenwhich where we split a wrap and watched the “What do you do for a living” guy film a video right in front of us. We walked into Mimi’s to attempt some frozen yogurt but walked right out because I don’t do lines or frozen yogurt and I certainly don’t do lines for frozen yogurt.
Gwen called after she and Lena finished the Hyrox race and asked where we should get dinner and I told her I needed more info- “what are you in the mood for?” We ended up going to Sugarfish, where the wait was an hour, so we got martinis a couple doors down. Neil Patrick Harris walked by and Lena freaked out, saying she watches How I Met Your Mother to fall asleep. At dinner, one of our waiters was this insanely cute and insanely tall guy. I asked how tall he was and he said, “6’8.” I asked how that was and he said he has to duck to avoid hitting his head a lot. I left my number for him on my chopsticks wrapper, writing, “I know this is a tall order, but text me?” We walked over to the W Hotel on 17th and tried going to the roof for a drink but it closed at 11 and it was, like, 11:05, so we came back to my apartment and hung out. I gifted the girls a bunch of random products from my PR overflow inventory. They left in good spirits with grocery bags full of Saie and Glossier.
Saturday:
Phew! It’s 1:30 PM and I’m getting ready to meet up with the girls again. Not sure what we’ll do but I love when Gwen’s in town because it really doesn’t matter what we do. Yesterday, I walked by a little marble side table on sale for $25 at the antique shop around the corner from my apartment while I was walking to the rooftop moisturizer shoot. I might try and cop if it’s still there. Other than that, we’ll see where the day takes us.
I’ll see you tomorrow!
