Fantastic. I was your age in the nineties and it was like this everyday for everyone. I miss it

Amazing what you see without a phone, an invention that allowed us to talk with each other, and now seems to have us doing everything but really talking. Right on HH, get out there and try talking without a phone!

That's real life. Noticing. Little connections made here and there and everywhere. It's magical when you've never really done it. I'm glad you're experiencing what so many of us grew up with. Social media is performative. The real bits are so much fewer than the made up ones. But real life where people are just walking around living, getting their coffee, looking at art in a gallery or museum, lingering long in a second hand book store where a cat reigns over all, paying for your groceries and having a wee moment with the teller or person in the line up behind you, sitting under a tree listening to the birds - real magic.

Totally, the other day I was going to walk my dog and I was searching the house frantically for my phone before realizing I literally did not need it for a 15 minute walk. And yes it felt like leaving behind a limb and I realized how messed up that is. So it is a practice I’m going to be doing more of, thanks for this delightful read!

Look from your phone. Shut down that display. Live life the real way.

This video came out in 2012. More timely than ever.

I am currently reimagining myself and love this suggestion. Honestly, a decent amount of fear is gripping me as I consider venturing out sans phone… (I am not at home in my usual habitat but in an unfamiliar city.)

i stop by my favorite little bistro for a beer after work and I've noticed that practically everyone who comes in and sits at the bar immediately whips out their phone and starts scrolling or whatever they are doing. If it's 2-3 friends they got their phones out and are scrolling or looking at god knows what ?????? Very few interact or pay attention the world around them. Very occasionally I will fall into a conversation with the person next to me - it is a seldom experienced occasion anymore. Life is out there all around you folks - pay some attention to it.
